Map of Staffordhire

South Staffordshire District

South Staffordshire lies to the north and west of Wolverhampton, bordering Shropshire to the west and Worcestershire to the south.

It is predominantly a rural area, where industry and commerce is assimilated into the countryside rather than dominating it. Most of the area lies within the Green Belt or is defined as "Open Countryside". Even the more built-up north east of the district, with its connections in the past with the coal industry, borders the attractive Cannock Chase.

The district has been described as "a community of communities", with no major towns but a range of very small rural hamlets of a few houses to villages of varying size. The villages include Bilbrook, Bobbington, Brewood and Coven, Cheslyn Hay, Codsall, Enville, Essington, Featherstone, Great Wyrley, Hatherton, Hilton, Himley, Huntington, Kinver, Wheaton Aston, Lower Penn, Pattingham, Penkridge, Perton, Saredon, Shareshill, Swindon, Seisdon and Trysull, Wombourne.

Bridgnorth District

Shifnal was once an important staging post on the London to Holyhead route. It is a small market town, in the district of Bridgnorth, with some quaint black and white buildings still surviving amongst the more modern developments.

It has excellent access to rail and motorway networks. Travelling to Shrewsbury, Wales, the West Midlands and the North is simplified by the close proximity of the M54, A5 and A41 and a rail service links Shifnal to Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Birmingham, with connections to London.

Stafford Borough

Stone is an old market town in Staffordshire, situated about seven miles north of Stafford, and around seven miles south of the city of Stoke-on-Trent. It is the second town, after Stafford, in the Borough of Stafford.

The River Trent, runs through the town as does the Trent & Mersey Canal. There is an hourly semi-fast direct train service to London Euston via Stafford and the Trent Valley line and north to Crewe via Stoke-on-Trent. There are two trunk roads, the A34 linking Birmingham to Manchester and the A51 linking Lichfield to Chester. Stone is by-passed by the M6 motorway.

Education within Stone is based on the three tier school system, with a range of first and Primary Schools, two middle schools and one High School.
